Baltimore vs. Washington

Jackson and Henry Light up the Scoreboard as Ravens Halt Washington’s Win Streak

The Baltimore Ravens won their fourth straight game after an 0-2 start, defeating the suddenly formidable Washington Commanders 30-23 to end their NFC geographical rival’s four-game winning streak.

Derrick Henry continued his impressive first campaign with the Ravens (4-2), rushing for 132 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for over 300 yards. It’s the fourth game in a row that the Ravens scored 28 or more points, and likely not coincidentally, they’ve won all four.

“[We are] just a pick your poison offense,” Jackson said after the game. “We’re just proving we can win games.”

“All three phases contributed to the win when they had to,” head coach John Harbaugh added. “Guys answered today in a lot of ways.”

With 323 yards passing and 40 more on the ground, Jackson – the reigning NFL MVP – outdueled rookie QB Jayden Daniels, who had 269 yards and was contained on the ground with just 22 yards for Washington (4-2).

Part of the offensive barrage was a nine-reception first half for Zay Flowers, who ended up with a team-high 132 receiving yards.

Mark Andrews caught Jackson’s lone touchdown pass of the game, which was the 41st receiving touchdown of his career. That ties him with Todd Heap for the franchise record.

Henry leads the league with nine touchdown runs and has become the first player since LaDanian Tomlinson to score a rushing touchdown in the first six games of the season did so in 2005.

In another good sign for the Ravens, Justin Tucker has settled in after a shaky start to the season. The multi-time All-Pro kicker went 3-for-3 in field goals and has made his last five over the past three games after a 5-for-8 start. He’s also perfect on 21 extra-point attempts this season.

GAME RECAP

Both teams came in hot on offense, but it took a while for the scoring to get going. After trading field goals to end the first quarter at 3-3, Henry scored the first of his pair of touchdowns with a 3-yard run midway through the second quarter to give the Ravens a 10-3 edge.

The Commanders tied things up when Daniels fourth Terry McLaurin in the end zone for a 7-yard score, but Baltimore was able to regain the lead before halftime with Andrews’ 13-yard reception with 53 seconds remaining before the break.

Baltimore was able to hold Washington to a field goal on their first drive of the second half, and Tucker responded with one of his own to make it 20-13. Henry then scored from seven yards out to increase the lead to 27-13.

McLaurin had another touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter to cut the Ravens’ lead to 27-20, but Tucker connected from 39 yards out to get the lead back to 10. Washington cut it back to a seven-point game with 2:46 to go, but the Ravens were able to gain a first down on 3rd and 1 with 1:10 remaining to then run out the clock.

UP NEXT

The Ravens get an extra day of prep before heading to Tampa next Monday night to play the Buccaneers to round out Week 7. Tampa Bay is also 4-2 on the season and rolling on offense after routing New Orleans 51-27 today.
